The Client: The client
is a messaging infrastructure company that has developed
a highly reliable and scalable messaging platform that offers
customers maximum choice and flexibility, while reducing
cost and complexity.
The Challenge: The purpose
of this project was to conduct Functional, Automation and
Performance testing on the Application Suite. The main challenge
for this project was to propose and implement a cost-effective
load testing/Automation solution that would fulfill all
client requirements.
The Solution: The project
broadly required the following:
- Functional testing on the application with various browsers
like IE 5.5 & 6.0, Firefox and Mozilla 1.7 on Win 2000
and Windows XP platforms. It was also tested against Opensource
clients such as Evolution and Thunderbird.
- Performance testing on the Web Client using Impetus's
Load Testing Tool - SandStorm. This also included identifying
performance critical test cases and executing them to
create a performance base line results.
- Automation testing for the application components.
Silk Test was required to be used for the Outlook and
Web client automation testing and HTTP unit testing tool
was to be used for Web client automation testing.
The Benefits: Impetus
used the SandStorm test tool for this project. Being platform
independent, the test developers could write Java code
to achieve testing goals unique to their application.
Also, no proprietary scripting language was required;
All benefits that Java offers are available to the test
developers.
Impetus designed a Functionality Automation Framework
using Segue, Silk Test. The tests were executed at Impetus,
India on daily basis and the results were published for
the client.
