Industry:
HealthCare
Technology: J2EE, RDBMS
The Client: The client
is a leader in providing software for the Home Infusion
and Home Medical Equipment (HME) Industry. Their has a client-server
based product is installed at over 300 locations in 46 states
in the USA.
The Challenge: The basic architecture of the
old product was based on DOS. Therefore, its tools and platform
served as limitation to the client. Impetus helped the client
by moving their product to an open and scalable Web based
platform. The application would be hosted as an ASP to drastically
reduce the total cost of ownership and administration.
The Solution: Impetus proposed a multi-tier
architecture for the client's product. In a very large environment
the customer can therefore distribute various layers onto
multiple hosts and clusters in the network-thus making it
highly scalable.
The new system designed by Impetus was to be Web-based,
giving the flexibility of operating it through remote desktop
or by a dial-up Internet connection. In addition, no client
setup would be required as it would be browser-based with
a large number of features, making it extensible. Also,
being a browser-based system, its architecture permits an
easy integration with wireless and hand held devices in
future, if required. The security was implemented based
on a combination of roles and permitted operations.
Multi-tier architecture and use of RDBMS instead of DBF
file formats also takes care of issues such as index corruption,
loss of data integrity and application failures in case
of heavy usage, which was a problem encountered in the
DOS version. Since RDBMS is used for data storage, it
is available as an asset for data mining and analysis
using SQL.
The Benefits: Impetus developed the new application
that goes way beyond the bare essentials - packed with
features that make daily operations and financial processes
more efficient and less staff intensive. And, it is also
HIPAA compliant.
