The Client: The client is a pioneer in the Instant Messaging and Presence Services domain. Its next generation messaging suite consists of a set of core services. These services enable the service providers to deliver the next generation messaging and services to their customers to create highly interactive communities. The client provides interoperability services to a rapidly evolving market, interconnecting operator Mobile Instant Messaging (MIM) networks worldwide, for a fast growing customer base of the varied operators.

Major Endeavor

1. Branding and Localization testing services

The Challenges: The client needed a solution which would allow IM applications to be tested for localization and branding, accurately and swiftly, to enable them to move to the market. The third party testing agencies verifying branding for major brand names such as MSN followed the strict specifications. The failure rate of applications going through the certification process and localization tests were high; thus further delaying the time to market.

The client wanted Impetus to implement a solution that would execute the pre-certification and localization tests within short schedules and with high level of accuracy to allow them to reduce time to market drastically.

The Solution: Impetus engineers visited onsite to understand the entire process involved in pre-certification (for communities like MSN, Yahoo and iFollow) and localization. Impetus then designed and implemented the test unit and test scripts, and reported into its automated workflow system at home to reduce the overall time required to turn around the application test reports. A substantial amount of training and refinement happened offshore to ensure that the team remains in sync with the overall test objectives. This was augmented by 24/7 availability of test engineers as per requirement schedules.

Impetus not only improved the internal test execution and reporting accuracy but also set up and fine tuned the communication methodology with all the third party testing agencies in order to facilitate the entire certification process efficiently. As a result of a strong communication link with third parties, Impetus managed to further reduce the time to market. The plan was then turned over to the client to operate.
