is so unique about the work that Impetus does?
Impetus is a focused product design and development
company. We develop state-of-the-art products, spanning
all leading-edge development platforms, for a host
of fast-paced and innovative software companies.
We also offer product-oriented services, across
the entire product development lifecycle.
We focus on innovation - that is our hallmark and
our salient highlight. Since we create products,
and not custom applications, the quality of work
we offer is both challenging and inspiring.
Can
you give me some examples?
We focus on the technology horizontal, rather than
having domain specific approach. In fact, we develop
products across various verticals such a healthcare,
insurance, telecommunications, manufacturing etc.
- We designed and developed a highly scalable and
componentized inventory planning and
forecasting
system for Servigistics. It consists of a thin presentation
layer, and a suite of
distributed server side components
to implement the business functionality.
- For Management by Information (MBI), a subsidiary
of Option Care Inc., we worked on creating a
new
Web-based J2EE product to replace the old DOS-based
product, based on a scalable and
extensible multi-tier
architecture.
- For 3M HIS, the software division of the 3M Company,
we have developed a clinical
documentation system
software 'ClinDoc'. The project included redesigning
and adding-on to an existing legacy system for improved
GUI, stability, performance, and ease of maintenance.
- KnowNow's integration software connects systems,
applications and databases, to people, quickly
and
easily. Impetus is responsible for developing and
maintaining their LiveConnectors in various
languages
like C++, ActiveX, Javascript and Java, and also
developing the .Net connector from
scratch.
We not only do cutting edge design, development
and testing, we also build our own intellectual
property assets that our clients license and leverage.
Our SandStorm load testing tool is being used by
one of the largest telecom companies in the world
to simulate 60,000 concurrent users. Our reporting
platform has displaced industry leading vendors
like Crystal out of companies like 3M and Wells
Fargo.
What

Our vast experience in building component-based
and service-oriented architectures (Web Services)
spans across all leading-edge development platforms,
such as J2EE and .Net, on a variety of operating
systems, databases (relational and object), and
application (J2EE-based) servers.

What
are the growth opportunities at Impetus?
Career growth at Impetus does not necessarily transform
you from a technologist to a functional or domain
expert. You can opt for a career path of your choice.
You can choose to follow the technical stream and
develop into an Architect and a Senior Technology
specialist, or a VP-Technology, who looks into emerging
technologies, research and new developments, and
also works on creating IP.
Alternatively, you can move into a Project Managerial
role, and handle a project team, coordinating with
the clients, and handling multiple accounts as you
grow. You also have the option of getting into Business
Development and Sales, in case that stream is of
interest to you, irrespective of a technical or
non-technical background.

Impetus offers an open and free work environment,

who make sure that the office milieu is always full

on, all the time, and there is never a dull moment
in office. We make sure that the office is like a

What
is the current employee strength of Impetus and what
are the growth
plans?
Currently we stand at close to 950 employees. These
are distributed across our offices in USA (California,
Atlanta, Boston), Indore (three offices) Noida (two
offices) and Hyderabad.
We expect our exponential growth to continue - and
hope to cross the 1000 employee mark well before the end of 2007.

Our clients include some of the finest startups in
the Silicon Valley; companies that are funded by blue-chip
VCs like Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, Redrock, and Venrock.
