A new chapter in Industry academia interface began in the city with the institution of “Impetus Chair of Information Technology and Systems. A signing of contract by Impetus CEO Praveen Kankariya and IIM-I Director Dr SP Parashar towards this end was held at Impetus House, Palasia on Wednesday.
Hailing it as landmark gesture, Dr Parashar termed the event as a result of fusion between youthful and dynamic energy sources in the form of an able and responsive CEO fully committed towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the youngest of all IIM’s.
Though giving back to alma mater through the alumnus and corporate is common in the west, the concept is sadly lacking in India. Impetus through its example has pioneered in this field and because of this generous endowment made towards research, application and education in general the company shall in turn earn for itself a student. He summed up the collaboration as the finest partnership possible.
The demands of the industry change over time and more often than not education per se and courses in particular fail to catch up. Consequently the recruiting companies find a very high percentage of students unfit for employment. Industry specific needs should come out as inputs or in the form of institutes specifically set up to further the cause of knowledge and particularly of science, engineering and management. The opening of Indian Institute of science in Bangalore by JRD Tata along with his first on the advice of Swami Vivekananda in 1893 such rare examples in Indian context, Dr Parashar said.
It which is one of the major sectors to be taken up by this chair has spread across India. People in the US now instead of saying jobs have been lost to India say, “Jobs have been Bangalored”. A similar story can be successfully repeated in Indore, which has the potential but lacks only in will to implement an Idea.
Kankariya said that, this was his ways of giving back to his city to which he belongs and from where he started finding a software product company. The chair will provide a collaborative framework for performing applied research industry practices, analysis, sharing knowledge and conducting specific projects of mutual benefits. This alliance shall not only provide avenue for grooming next-tier midlevel leadership in a tier- II city but also trained leadership for Impetus Management and benefit IIM-I students to gain Industry perspectives and insight. This joining of hand shall immensely benefit stakeholders, employees and the community at large. The combination of engineering talent at Impetus with management knowledge of IIM-I will result in a synergy of thoughts and Ideas. He said that the state government has been slow in initiating a dialogue and resultantly he still waits to open offices at IT Park (SEZ). The company itself has done well and crossed 800 marks in personnel in Indian operation he said.
